College Ministry

foundation-logo.jpgFOUNDATION is the College Ministry of First Baptist Church Texarkana. If you are a College student who is looking for a place to plug in while attending College, then Foundation is a place for you. Or if you are a college student looking to learn more about Christianity, Jesus, the Bible, etc., then we believe Foundation is a place for you. We believe that through life on life relationships and discipleship, that students can build a strong, healthy, and firm foundation in Christ that impacts the rest of their life. Foundation exists to:

Connect College students to Jesus, but also one another. This includes weekly events for fellowship, along with opportunities for someone who is investigating Jesus to come and learn more about what it means to follow Jesus.

Equip College students in practical ways to grow in your relationship with Christ while you are in school. We want to help you better know Jesus and make Him known to others. There are weekly small groups that you can get plugged into for discipleship, fellowship, and accountability.

Mobilize College students into opportunities post-grad. We want you to flourish in your relationship with Jesus long after college, regardless of the career path you choose. We want to serve you and help you tread the sometimes murky and difficult waters of adjusting to life after college.

We spend much of our time on the campuses of Texas A&M - Texarkana along with Texarkana College. We want to be where the students are, so we will have weekly and monthly events to serve college students. The best way to stay updated on all of our events is to follow our social media pages. We will post frequently to inform students of the various events and bible studies we have available throughout the Fall & Spring semesters.

Foundation Pathway

The Foundation Pathway is our mission laid out for our students to see and better understand: We exist to make disciples of Jesus Christ on the college campus. Here's how our students can grow as disciples through these 4 avenues:

1. Students can know God more through our weekly worship at FBC Texarkana and MDWK Bible studies on Wednesday nights.

2. Students can find community in our weekly growth groups where they can navigate the college experience with other Believers and grow deeper together.

3. Students who are ready for a deeper growth as a leader and disciple can join our Student Leadership Team which meets 2 Sundays a month, and/or a Discipleship Group that is led by one of our staff or student leaders. These groups are smaller and designed to help you become a disciple-maker.

4. Students can impact the world for Christ through our yearly mission trips put on by our Church and College Ministry, Evangelizing the lost on our campuses, and serving in the local Church in a myriad of opportunities.

Where are you on the Foundation Pathway? What is your next step in your growth as a disciple of Jesus Christ?

Fall 2020 Corona Virus Updates:

This Fall Foundation College Ministry will be back. We plan to have events, Bible Studies, Small Groups, and Discipleship Groups. We will seek to make these avenues as safe as possible for our students, and will comply with safety guidelines. Students will be asked to wear a mask at these events, studies, and groups to help cultivate an environment of safety for other students. Every "large" event will be held outside and social distancing will be practiced and masks required unless seated. We also will seek to have virtual options for students, such as College Bible Class videos and our Foundation Podcast updated with Bible Studies, along with our "Following Jesus in College" series that will begin again for it's second season on August 31.

Weekly Events

MDWK

MDWK is a weekly Bible Study/Gathering for all college-aged students in the Texarkana area. It is geared towards meeting college students where they are at.

MDWK begins at 7:30pm with a free meal for any students who come on the first Wednesday of the month! Every week, we will gather for a time of worship, an interaction time, a student testimony, and quick Bible message geared towards following Jesus as a college student. It usually lasts around an hour. It is a great way to connect with God while also getting to connect with other students

The First MDWK will be on September 2nd with FREE Chick Fil A at 7:30pm at FBC Texarkana in the Atrium. We will practice social distancing and would require wearing a mask when up and around other students. We are excited to be back!

Fall Semster Series

This semester as a Ministry, we will be walking through the book of Acts. For the whole Fall semester, each MDWK and Group will be focused on some passage from the book of Acts. Our Theme for the Semester and for our study on Acts is "WITNESS". Acts is a book that communicates the mission & identity of Believers, we are to be "Witnesses for Christ". A fruit of knowing Jesus is a desire to be a witness of Him to the world.

Make sure to come each week to MDWK as we walk through this book.

We also we'll discuss the book in our small groups and discipleship groups, hoping to grow in our understanding of what it means to be a Witness for Christ on our college campuses and in our communities post-grad.

Fall Reading Plan

We also will be walking through the book of Acts in our Devotional/Private reading time during the semester. We will provide for each of our students a 12 week reading plan through the book of Acts in it's entirety and questions to help you meditate and understand the passages you read.

You can find the 12 Week reading plan with commentary and resources here. Also, if you're looking for a more in depth study of Acts with good questions you can look here
